Each kit is designed using locally available building materials. That means a small local delivery fee instead of long distance shipping charges on your materials package. Less long distance shipping is better for the environment and let's you support your local economy.
Because we custom draft each set of plans as part of your kit you can recycle doors and windows locally and we'll show on your plans. Thinking of using our doors or windows? Ask about having them made out reclaimed barn boards.
Want to substitute roofing or siding materials? No problem! Upgrades are available. With our 4-Control system our buildings can accept most kinds of siding. With our kits you can have the look of a log cabin or recycle your old barn boards. You can upgrade your composition roofing or switch to metal.
Your time is valuable! We spend the time putting your package together and scheduling the delivery. This means you have more time for the other parts of your project, such as, land preparation, permitting,and hiring a contractor.

How long will it take?
As strange as it may sound, the only extra time available to speed up your project completion is being used up now as you read this. Likely the most frustrating part of your project will come as you try to maintain your time schedule. Many times homeowners have already broken ground and prepared the site before choosing a design. Because you have been unsure of who you will go with, you have been talking to suppliers, builders, and sub-contractors. This may have gone on for months as you have tried to determine the best way to go. In the coming days, weeks, or months, you will sign agreements and get started.
Then the waiting begins. You will have to wait for the banker, wait for the plan design, wait for the engineer's stamp, wait for the building department, wait for the builder, wait for the inspectors, wait for the plumber, wait for the electrician, … wait, wait, wait …! Feel the frustration? In all fairness to your suppliers, builders, and subcontractors, they are likely trying to do a good job in a timely fashion to please you. But their jobs are not so easy. It is best to note their time estimates and then mentally double them. Don't tell them you've done that, or they will take even longer. By allowing plenty of extra time, you will avoid frustration.
To ensure a timely completion and avoid stress, START NOW! Your supplier, builder, and subs will take the same amount of time if you start now or a month from now. The first thing to do is choose a design and get it into permitting. Site preparation and other tasks can be done while you wait for the permitting approval. It is not necessary to hire an architect or buy plans. We will provide them with our package.
How to start now!
At Pennypincher's we don't need to know everything at sign up time. We do need the ground floor footprint size, including shed porches, and the size of the loft footprint. We will also need the customer homework for your project. Once we have these, we can be off and running. We will work out the door and window sizes and locations as we go along.
